Sacred Texts and Oral Traditions
January 17, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm PST

This graduate course taught by Rabbi Laura Duhan-Kaplan offers an introduction to sacred scripture and oral narrative in four traditions: Tanakh in Judaism, New Testament in Christianity, Qur’an in Islam, and Oral Stories in Indigenous Traditions. For each tradition, we will become acquainted with content, history, transmission, interpretation, and cultural significance. We will highlight oral teachings within each tradition, and overlapping story threads between the traditions.
The course begins on January 17 and meets most Tuesday afternoons through April 4. Last day to join the course is January 24. To register for audit or credit, please contact the Vancouver School of Theology.
