Summary (Genesis 28:10-32:3)

On his way to Haran, Jacob dreams of a ladder connecting earth and heaven. In Haran, he falls in love with Rachel. But her father Laban tricks Jacob into also marrying Leah, her sister. Leah names her six sons and her daughter, articulating her inner journey from yearning to gratitude. Bilhah and Zilpah birth sons as surrogate mothers for Rachel and Leah. Rachel describes her inner journey as she names Bilhah’s sons and her own son. Laban tries to swindle Jacob. But Jacob becomes a wealthy master sheep breeder. Jacob, Rachel, and Leah agree to leave Laban’s household. Laban is angry, but has a powerful dream and makes peace.
